5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin, an important neurotransmitter in the brain . Serotonin is normally synthesized from tryptophan via the intermediate metabolite 5-HTP.
Extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia, supplemented 5-HTP is well absorbed and bypasses the normal conversion of tryptophan into 5-HTP . In the central nervous system, serotonin helps to regulate a variety of biological processes, such as mood and sleep. As normal mood depends on normal levels of serotonin, 5-HTP has been shown to help promote healthy mood balance by easily crossing the blood-brain barrier to increase serotonin levels.
As a sleep aid, 5-HTP helps promote restful sleep by increasing REM sleep1

L-5-Hydroxytryptophan (from Griffonia simplicifolia seeds) -100 mg
Other ingredients: Cellulose, hypromellose
Take one capsule three times daily with meals or as recommended by your healthcare practitioner. To minimize the risk of gastrointestinal side effects, start dosing at one capsule two times daily and slowly increase to recommended dose over a two week period
Do not use if you have scleroderma. Consult your healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking any medication, or have any health condition.
Discontinue use and consult your healthcare practitioner if you show signs of weakness, oral ulcers, abdominal pain accompanied by severe muscle pain or experience skin changes. Some people may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or drowsiness. Exercise caution if operating heavy machinery, driving a motor vehicle or involved in activities requiring mental alertness.
